Great place with lovely food, good prices. Great for Serra Mesa, Linda Vista, College area. Good serving sizes. Be a little reserved on the spice number(1-10) the chef i heavy handed on the spices. The taste of everything we had was great. Lastly, no brown rice. Well ... they gotta keep it real with the jasmin and white rice.

WATCH your Credit Card receipt! I decided to try Thai Pepper about 2 weeks ago. The food was okay--about what I expected from the reviews. I ordered a meal at the restaurant and a meal to take home. I usually leave a cash tip but instead I put it onmy credit card. Today I got my credit card statement and someone had increased the tip amount from 15% to 20%. I know lots of folks just add a tip and don't keep their receipts but I always keep track and it bothers me to see this. I called the restaurant and the gentleman told me it wasn't their mistake but rather the mistake of the POS company that sends the numbers to the bank and I should call that company. Really!?! Anyway, I just don't buy that. It's a small amount but if someone there adds 50 cents or $1 to various card holders, well, that becomes a scam and should make everyone eating there wary. My credit card company will reimburse me but they will not likely investigate the restaurant, so maybe if this has happened to you you should note it here and let's see if we can stop it. Anyway, eat there if you wish, but watch your statements!

I've been to countless thai joints in San Diego and this one is the best that I've seen. Other ones in San Diego are good as well, but this is the most complete I've seen as many have good curry but not noodles or vice versa. This one has good noodles, curry, and many other dishes with the various soups being awesome as well. I'm not a food critic, but I know good food and you aren't gonna find much better than here. Just go here or you are missing out....period.

Good food, the papaya salad was nice. Ask for the super hot chili's if you are into spicy food. We have the following items: spring rolls 4 star pad se ew 4+ stars massaman curry 5 star (very nice) fish cake (4 star, not my fav thing but mom loved it) We ordered Tom KA but they forgot to make it. Only concern is how long it takes to make the food...but in reality, good food sometimes takes time to make...so ill leave it at that. kinda in a weird spot but thats okay too. Give them a try.

For take out, yes & yum. For dining in, a big ole meh-ss (especially for families with little ones). -Tasy food -Weird dining furniture -No suitable high chair for little ones -No public restroom ...Order food for pick up, you won't be eating her for the ambience... Being from the neighborhood I've eaten their food plenty. There are pros and cons. If I were solely rating the food, I'd give it a solid 4 stars. The food is pretty darn tasty, not the best I've EVER had, but good. The server is always the same, and she is very friendly. So why the meager two stars? We usually order the food for take-out, but on a whim walked here with my two small kiddos for lunch. It had been a while since I'd eaten in the restaurant and forgot the pain of it. The dining chairs are big old office surplus chairs, difficult to move and maneauver around. Annoy, but not major. There was only one high chair. My one year old sat in it, and the buckle was completely broken, very dangerous. I was irked that the server was friendly but seemed to question "is he not able to sit?" Yes, he can sit, and sit well, but it would take very little for a small child to easily wiggle through the bottom of the chair and fall to the ground. Boo, very dangerous. So I use my hair tie to tie my kid into the high chair. Then, of course my three and half year old had to pee. But, there is NO RESTROOM. Really?! For a sit down restaurant not to have restrooms to wash your hands or go to the bathroom is a big thumbs down for me. So, I untied my kid, and literally ran my kids home for my daughter to go pee. The server was kind enough to comp the thai iced tea that I had two sips of. Please Thai Pepper, your food is good, so it together and make your restaurant more like, well a restaurant.

This place is amazing! We go all the time. The food is delish!!! The main waitress knows us, and my kids always run up to her and give her hugs. She is always so nice. Again, the food is SO good. The prices are great too. My Mom was in town and all four of us had lunch for about $30. That includes drinks and dessert. I send everyone I know there. They are awesome!

Okay, a friend took me here cause he randomly discovered this place out of nowhere on his lunch break. The location is pretty random. It doesn't even look like a restaurant from the outside because it's sandwiched between a sandwich place and a small grocery market. Directly across a CVS. So my method of testing whether I like a Thai place is how they make their Pad Thai. Yes, I know everyone gets it but there are different recipes out there. So I definitely had to use my gauge. It was actually pretty good. I got the pork Pad Thai. The meat was not overcooked and it wasn't overly sweet or peanutty (personally dislike a place using peanut paste or too much dark sweet soy sauce) I have to admit though the overall dish was kinda on the dry side (more on the noodles) but when you think about it...it's wasn't oily.greasy like others, which is the bonus! This place doesn't seem to ask you what spicy range you want unless you request is what I assume. The cook is actually Thai cause I saw her walking in the back talking to the main server. This place is definitely your family owned place. We also ordered their Drunken Fish. Definitely is a must have when you're here. One whole fish filet piece. Cooked really well...flakey fish meat. Yum. It's topped off with red peppers, crispy basil leaves and has sweet chilli sauce as the base. They have lunch and dinner specials but I was not able to capitalize on it due to the fact we ate at a weird afternoon off time on a Saturday. It's a really small place but I did see a table where they could seat 10 people at most. I will definitely come back here to try the other dishes. Parking is a small lot but should be okay but again I didn't come here during peak meal hours.

Had the Panang (now my favorite) curry along with a Chicken Salad. Both extremely flavorful enjoyable dishes! The lunch special they offer is amazing! 6.95 for an entree, a salad, a cup of soup and an egg roll? you cannot go wrong with that. And its all high quality, authentic thai food. You get way more than you pay for and I would gladly pay double the price for what I am getting. The owner is amazingly sweet and helpful and the art and setup is tasteful. Always will be a customer.

Thus time, my 4th at Thai Spices, tried Garlic and Pepper Chicken, spicy=7. This time 7 was a little hotter than last (I'd call it "8") so plan accordingly! No problem for me but good for clearing sinuses. Great flavor combination using black pepper. Also braved Thai iced tea, an interesting orange-colored, creamy concoction (coconut milk). Tasty and (very) sweet. Cuts the heat of the food well. A little over the top on coconut for my taste. Kitchen was startlingly fast and service was good.

One of the best places in San Diego to eat That food. They provide excellent customer service, very friendly service , and the food is always good!!! The wait time for the food is always short and when the food gets to you, it's nice and hot!!!

I felt like trying a new Thai place out since there are approximately five billion in San Diego. Also, I've never ventured out to Serra Mesa. I got pad thai with tofu and my fiance ordered pad se yew, and both were really good. The tofu was kind of dry (maybe pre-cooked?) but other than that, I thought the dishes had great flavor. I guess why I'm detracting two stars is the service. Both the young girl and boy were really friendly and actually attentive at first. But their friend came in and then the girl disappeared and we were just hanging out for awhile waiting for the check. My fiance had to go up to the register and get someone's attention. I don't know. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood. I used to be a server though, and taking care of two tables is just not hard. Sorry. They DO give you a free Thai iced tea, which was really cool. And their chairs are like...office chairs. They're super comfy. Overall, it was good, but nothing to freak out about.

I brought my family here for dinner based on the Yelp reviews. It turned out to be the worst dining experience I've ever had. It did not appear busy at all - there were empty tables and we were seated immediately - so I don't know what their excuse would be. Here are the highlights: 1) After being seated the waitress disappeared without giving us menus. It took over five minutes to finally get menus. That's a minor annoyance but they were just warming up... 2) 20 minutes after ordering, the waitress came to tell us that they made a mistake and the kitchen hadn't even started preparing our meal. I politely told the waitress that it was okay and that we would wait, and asked if she could bring the Thai iced tea I ordered. 3) 5-10 minutes later the waitress returned to inform me that they were out of Thai iced tea! A Thai restaurant being out of Thai iced tea is annoying, but waiting 30 minutes to tell a customer who ordered something that it is unavailable is ridiculous. 4) 45 minutes after ordering they brought half of the dishes we ordered (two Beef Satay plates). 5) An hour and fifteen minutes after ordering, half of our party was finished eating but the other half still had not received their dishes! One of the two dishes we didn't receive was a pad Thai, which shouldn't take an hour to prepare. The other was one of the specials. At that point we were sufficiently fed up and asked for the check for the two dishes we actually received. To their credit they did comp those dishes. We then left to find somewhere else to eat. Besides the above there was one more egregious problem: there was a dog in their kitchen! I believe that is a health code violation in most areas. The door to the kitchen was open, as was the back door to the parking lot, and from our table we could clearly see the dog occasionally walking in and out of the back door! After seeing that I was glad that I did not receive my order - pad Thai with dog hairs is not appetizing to me.

This used to be my all time favorite Thai place. It's now under new ownership and it is no longer what it used to be. The drunken fish is way too sweet. The pad see ew doesn't have that special bang like it used to. The only thing that seemed ok was the yellow curry. The place does look better with the new decor & paint, but I don't like the loud young rock music. Our waiter seemed young and inexperienced worried more about his hair than the timeliness of service. I miss the older Thai lady and her friendly service. I don't think I will be going out of my way to come back.

I was craving a yummy bowl of Tom Kha Gai & Thai Pepper did not fail! Also had beef pad thai that was equally delicious. Very accommodating and sweet. I believe the owner is also the operator which I always love. One of the better Thai joints in SD if you ask me.

I just heard about this place no long ago and I'm very glad I did (Thanks Karen). I had their spicy noodles and they were spot on. They added tomato slices in the veggie mix which was unusual, but it worked! My wife had the veggies in a peanut sauce which was also a winner. Good portion sizes and the veggie soup that was served as part of the lunch special was addictive. There were also some unique things on the menu that I'd never heard of before that I look forward to trying. But I always order spicy noodles when I try a new place out. If they can't get that right... no need to return. Oh, and very nice service too. We actually walked out with the recipe for the soup and a meatball recipe too. Go figure! We both agree, it's worthy of another visit! If you've not tried this place, give it a go!! By the looks of all the reviews, they're consistently good. I sure hope so!!

I have lived next to this restaurant for over a year before i tried it. I wish i tried it sooner. The food is so good. I ordered the panang curry and drunken noodles to go. The curry was very creamy, rich, and flavorful with lots of veggies and shrimp. The noodles were good too. I liked how there we tomatoes stir fried with tofu and peppers. I can't wait to go back and try their other items

The food was really good and the service was excellent! They were really kind and the food came out fairly quickly. I really liked the thai iced tea that they gave me complimentary with the food. I wish it was more accessible as in location-wise, but times are tough these days...it really is one of the best thai restaurants I've ever been to, perhaps the best in socal! :)

Just got back from this place and the food and service were just amazing. Such kind people made me feel comfortable and taken care of. Food- SO GOOD, I've always been a pineapple fried rice person but I thought I'd get out of my comfort zone and try the yellow curry with shrimp. The taste wasn't too spicy but just enough it got my nose running a little. But it was so delicious I kept on going. Service- If only i could get this kind of service every where I went out to eat. There were 2 servers tonight an older woman and a younger gentlemen. Both very kind and helpful. Even packed my extra food away for me at my table. Price- I don't think was bad at all, ended up getting Thai tea, chicken satay and the yellow curry for $20 (before tip). Well worth it. Atmosphere- The restaurant was not the biggest but felt comfortable. 10 tables I think at the most. Cute decorations and they had some nice music playing. Overall great place not one bad thing or critic I can make right now as it was my first time there tonight. If you're in the mood for some Thai I'd definitely try this place out.

Hands down the best Thai food in San Diego. I have always been loyal to spices thai but this place is way better. The service was 5 star, hard to get at a thai restaurant. We walked in 40 minutes before closing time and they welcomed us like the first customers of the day. The food was seriously addicting. We tried this special shrimp dish that I will now crave the rest of my life. The drunken noodles were spot on and their curry panang and green were so good, we asked for an 8 and it was spicy. Also I really appreciated that they had a spice rack on the table already... not that we needed it.

Thai pepper has some really great food! Out of the way so a bit hard to find off of convoy but the drunken fish was great and so was the tom kha soup!

Yet another case in which I don't get the Yelp rating. A lot of people review this place as having the best Thai in SD; that doesn't really match my own experience. Given the preponderance of 5s for this place, I have to believe I caught this place on a bad night although the owners were extremely friendly as the other reviewers have mentioned. I ordered the Thai Pepper Basket. Which actually comes in a basket. Made of rice noodles. Which was kind of cool. Ish. The rest of the dish was just ok. A tad heavy with the bamboo, which I never would have thought possible. We also ordered the Pad See Iw, which is basically flat rice noodles with chicken and brocolli; this was the bigger disappointment. The dish was coated with a substantial amount of soy giving it both a black sheen and an overly salty flavor. Lastly, Thai places usually ask how spicy you want such and such a dish. That didn't happen in this case. Maybe that was just an oversight, but both dishes ended up much more White person-friendly (i.e., non-spicy) than I would have liked. Maybe the lack of spice is why this place is so popular? Do yelpers hate spice? Summary: To my fellow yelpers: there are many, better Thai places in SD!

This place is SUCH A HIDDEN GEM. We found it when my bf and I were craving Thai food one day and realized there was actually one right in our residential neighborhood. It's a really tiny mom & pop restaurant, but it's got a warm and cozy feel once you're inside. (& the decor isn't all that tacky!) The (sole) waitress there is the sweetest lady ever -- always attentive and asking us how everything was. ... and THE FOOD. Oh my goodness. Everything we ordered was so flavorful and heavenly from the Tom Yum soup to the Satay appetizers as well as our main dishes. I decided to try the Pad Thai and my bf ordered their yellow curry so that we had more variety to gauge their culinary repertoire. We were absolutely satisfied with everything we ordered and even took some home because the portions were so huge. & on that note, we also couldn't believe that everything we ordered was less than $10. Good food for CHEAP? now THAT is LEGIT. Needless to say, we will be spending many more scrumptiously filled nights at this fine establishment

Wanted to try a new Thai place and we decided on this place because of the Yelp reviews. We decided on the Yellow Curry, the Lard and the yummy steamed veggies. The Lard which was lettuce wraps - minced chicken breast and herbs very good but had a strong smell. The yellow curry had a lot of veggies and chicken but needed a little more flavor. The service was OK. We were the first ones there at 11:15am but it took us a little over an hour to get out of there. The waitress was very nice but no one else was there to help take orders and check people out. You would think that during lunch rush hours more than one person would be there to help get people in and out. The waitress kept forgetting to get our check so we must of waited 10 must just to our check. The prices were very reasonable but we asked for a side dish of steamed veggies and she charged us 6.75, when a lunch order was $7.95. The place is small but very clean. They brought us clean silver wear after our salads. I would definitely go back, I will just let the waitress know were on a time crunch.

Yikes! What a disappointment this place was. The decor was funky, yet warm. The staff was incredibly nice and attentive, but the pad see ew was a huge clump of SOY SAUCE! I wanted to love it, but I couldn't get over the clumpy noodles held together by the soy sauce. The beef was very tender, but once again inundated with soy flavoring. Let's just say, I'll be back on Convoy checking out some other Thai places.

Thai Pepper Cuisine is relatively new on the Thai food scene in San Diego, but it has made quite the impression on our hero with its fresh, fast, and friendly appeal to his love of spicy Asian food. It's small, and doesn't seem to have its own parking lot, but you can apparently park by the curb right outside the front door. Most of the dinner entrees range from about $7.95 to $12.95 so it's definitely affordable prices for some quality Thai food. Trust our hero on the quality: everything is made with with lean juicy meats, even the water is lime-infused, and they got most of their recipes from a top hotel chef in Bangkok that personally trained the cooking staff. When our hero and his dining companion visited this week, they tried the spring rolls, massaman curry, and wild boar basil curry. The spring rolls came out smoking hot with a well balanced sauce, and the curries were very flavorful and full of meat and vegetables. Our hero was impressed by their preparation of boar meat, which takes a slow cooking at lower temperatures to ensure that it came out as tender as it did. The server, Oy, seems to be able to judge her customer's spiciness tolerances better than they know themselves. When our hero's company ordered a spicy level of 6 or 7 out of 10 after saying she didn't want it too spicy, Oy knew to knock it down a notch or four. If you want something that's "Thai spicy" at this place, you better be able to prove yourself capable of handling it. Before they left, our hero's dining partner was heard saying "this is the best Thai food I've ever had. Seriously." PROS: - Really authentic Thai food for a cheap price... can't beat that! - Super friendly service that is helpful in explaining menu choices and offering menu recommendations. CONS: - Kind of on the small side. Difficult to accommodate parties larger than 4 people.

The place is excellent! New owners did a face lift remodel. Our waiter was very attentive and polite and wore a clean black slacks and black button shirt with a tie. The spicy noddles were very generous portion and the fresh fried rolls were the best! The pai thai was ordered with tofu and was just as great! We will be back to this hidden gem! Worth the drive and the owner was very nice and dressed in a Thai dress.

Pretty awesome small thai restaurant. It is very cozy. Came here with a group Of 6 for a birthday dinner. The lady who took and served us was so friendly and funny. She had a very contagias laugh. She made us feel like family. All The food was delicious. I ordered something that was not on The menu but she knew exactly what it was and had it made. It was yummy..great blend Of lime, chili, seafood in tradional thai seafood salad. Everyone else enjoyed their dish, very tasty and pretty close to what you get in thailand. In The end they surprised The bfay boy with a karaoke version Of The happy birthday song and made sticky rice mangos for us. Very sweet couple.

Food and service = A++ I come here for their tom yum soup. it's $5 for a cup and you get to choose between shrimp or chicken. I go for the shrimp! With anything that you order, you can choose how spicy you want it to be on a scale from 1 to 10. I ALWAYS go for the 10! Yes, it IS very spicy! But I've been eating spicy food since I was 6 years old so my taste buds been gone.. This place use authentic, fresh Thai ingredients. The famous lemon grass adds the perfect amount of sour to the soup. GAWD, writing this review is making my mouth water.. &&& the ladies who works there always extremely nice! I have called them a few times just 10 minutes before they close and they are nice enough to still take my order! LOVE!

Got this as a recommendation from a co-worker. I really loved this place. Small, quaint dining area, but food tastes awesome and authentic. We got pad thai, tom ka soup and pinapple fried rice. I have tried dozens of Thai food places in San Diego and this is one of the top on my bucket list!

Ate here for the first time for lunch today. I am used to Thai places that will give you a lunch special that includes a crispy roll and a small salad, but when opening the Yellow Curry I ordered, it was just the Rice and entree. I did like the addition of Zucchini and baby corn. The sauce was good and spicy and I only ordered a 3. For 8.50 I came away still hungry. Also when I asked her for Chopsticks she kind of made fun of the fact I was going to use it with rice. Do Thai people not use chopsticks with rice? I didn't know that. I am almost translucent I am so white!

How could I miss this place for the past few years that I live here? Amazing food. I ordered the spicy noodles with chicken and it was very very delicious. I had been to other Thai restaurants and ordered the same thing but others were very greasy. My fiance got the LAN CA and it was amazing. Chinese broccoli and beef, it was an excellent combination! The service was good and people are super friendly! Definitely coming back! No doubt!!

Went with a friend because she heard such good things about it. I ordered the red curry with chicken and she ordered the pad see ew. She said her dish was good but mine... sucked. A lot. It had a strange sweetness that left an odd aftertaste in my mouth. I asked for a spiciness of 8-- tasted like a 2. I don't know if I went on an off day.. or if it was just a random fluke but I thought the food was horrible. Confused by the other ratings..2

Great neighborhood place, delicious for what is around. The service is great and the food is quite tasty. They aren't consistent with asking how spicy you want your dishes, but still delicious. I love their fried rice and Tom khar! It's a neighborhood place, family owned, if you live in the area - its a great place to go regularly, but if you want a place that is classier in their ambience - I suggest going somewhere else.

You pass by a bunch of residential houses before you get to this place. I seriously thought this restaurant was really at someone's house that they converted into a little cafe/restaurant place. It's kinda nestled between a couple of commercial buildings, but I really wouldn't have found this or even noticed this place without the help of Yelp. Food: 1) Tom Yum Soup: A group of friends and I ordered a whole pot of this and we shared it. It came in this weird bowl that was kinda like a bunt cake where there was nothing in the middle and only soup on the narrow rim of the bowl. The ladle that came with the bowl was way too small to fit in that narrow rim so it was hard to scoop the soup up. But nevertheless, we managed. However, it wasn't that great. Just normal Tom Yum. Not too bad, nothing too notable either. 2) Papaya Salad: The only reason I gave this place 3 stars is because I felt like their papaya salad was really below papaya salad standards. It was essentially flavorless. The papaya didn't taste super fresh or anything. Not only was there not really anything special about it, it was also really bland. I was really unimpressed by this salad. Probably the worse papaya salad I've ever had. Sorry :( 3) Spicy Noodles: Pretty good. I like the spicy flavor, it really gave an extra kick to the dish. The taste was essentially close to Pad see ew (as in really close to just soy sauce flat rice noodle kinda taste). Pretty good though. Ambiance: Really small, but nonetheless, super cozy. I like the random Thai decorations throughout the restaurant. The seats were also really comfortable! Tons of cushion! Service: The waitress was REALLY nice and helpful with the menu. The kitchen service was SUPER SUPER slow though. There was only ONE other table there, so it wasn't super busy, or even remotely close to being busy...but it took FOREVER for us to get our food! So long that we were pretty unhappy with the service. Price: The whole meal came out to be around $11-ish. Price was decent but the quality of the food was not that great :( Overall: Don't think I'll make a trip back out here just to re-try this place :(

So far, the best Thai food I have had in San Diego. I can't rate the authenticity of the dishes, since i've only had Thai food in San Diego and Arizona, however, of the places i've been, this is the best. And the service is amazing, friendly and funny. I've been here 3 times in as many weeks and plan to come back again and again. One of the things i appreciate most is the simplicity of the menu descriptions. I have never ventured away from pad thai and curry before now. I have tried a new dish (new to me) each time i dined here, without fear or hesitation.

Pure amazingness! By far the best thai food I've eaten in San Diego so far. It's literally a mom and pop type of spot and can be easily overlooked, but well worth the find. The fiancé had found this little gem and took me here for dinner one evening. Within a 2 week span, we've been back a total of 3 times now. Yes, it's that good! So far we've ordered the basic Pad Thai chicken and greem/red curry...nommy! Full of flavor in every bite. Your tummy will be dancing of pure satisfaction to how good the food is. It's not overly greasy or bland tasting like other places I've tried. The prices are decent and menu is simple. Customer service has been awesome! They make you feel comfortable and right at home. Very attentive and will always be sure you are satisfied with your meal. Thumbs up and will be a regular at this little gem.

This little shop in Sara Mesa has wonderful Thai food and if you ask them they can make some of your favorite dishes Lao style, like the papaya salad. Our office visits this place regularly and for a terrific lunch try their Thai Spicy Noodles with pork. They catered our department's holiday party this year and it was a big success.

pretty tasty fish & good dishes. thai food in the states is typically bastardized to some degree, and depending on where you go how much lol, but so is all 'foreign foods' here generally speaking. is the mexican really mexican? the italian really italian? you get my drift... it is, and its not. these people are straight up Thai and i think they make a pretty good Thai dish worth its respect... they are very friendly and courteous and serve you with a smile. its a totally family-run and operated biz for sure. nice decor. small and cozy and yet big enough to sustain a crowd. their prices are also very fair.. right between the 1.5$, which is great! their a little off the beaten path for most, but its well worth the trip!

another good find by the wife. for a person that doesn't have a yelp account she seems to find these hidden gems in SD. we ate here back in december and its a little off beaten but its worth a trip if your in the mood for thai and don't let the office chairs fool you because they have killer flavors. pretty much that's all you can ask for when it comes to thai. do the flavors explode?.... they surely do. ordered my tester dish green curry and the wife ordered something that was a special of the day in a birds nest. the green curry was creamy and a little sweet but it could've used a little more heat but that can be added once the dish gets to the table. it had all the green curry requisites (eggplant, basil,) but it wasn't green the curry which very few places do. the wifes dish was also good. good size and portion of (deveined) shrimp with tons of fresh veggies but more important, the flavor. it had tons of it from its very light looking stir fried sauce. very good find indeed and we will add it to our thai rotation list for sure.

Having lived in Serra Mesa for the last 18 years, I've seen a plethora of grungy hole-in-the-wall restaurant attempts that have all lasted less than 6 months... This place (and perhaps bear buns) is the only one that I think will reside in this location for a long time to come. The reasons are this: 1) Prices to Portions are very fair 2) Service is great, even if there is a bit of a language barrier 3) the food is awesome, having spent a month in Thailand myself, this place does it right. much more authentic than other self acclaimed authentic Thai places I have been to 4) plenty of parking So on and so forth... Take it from some one who doesn't pride themselves on their critically witty yelp reviews, and who doesn't go to every restaurant that has a near 5 star rating looking for something that they can critique and go home and rant about.... This place is legit Enjoy

We came here pretty late, but they gave us friendly service. I think this is a mom & pop shop but the presentation was flawless, they really put hard work into their presentation. Their taste was delicious, but not one of my Thai favorites, it's still good but I wasn't wowed by it.

Let's keep this short and sweet, shall we? Hole in the wall location (+1 for authenticity) Random glittery Thai decorations and large murals of leaves on the wall (+1) Extensive menu featuring several out-of-the-ordinary dishes (aka boar curry---mmmmm +1) Large portions, reasonable prices (+1) Seafood ho mok....OMGILOVETHISSTUFF!!!!! Quite possibly the best Thai food in San Diego. My dinner date and I like to give one-word commands so here ya go: Go Eat Enjoy

Dear Thai Pepper, even though my office has moved, I still miss you. The way you made my eyes tear with your chiles or how, if I called ahead, you would have my order waiting and bring me as much water as I could drink. I love that you have plenty of parking and that your hostess is so nice. And I love that you were walking distance on a sunny day. I miss our daily visits. You were my first Som Tum after years of thinking I was allergic to papaya. How could I ever forget you? If I had any say, I would make my office move back there, but since I don't you will have to remain a weekend indulgence. Someday our love will return, until then I remain forever yours, Harry

For excellent Thai food, this is the place. My very favorite is chicken lad na, which is the Thai version of chow fun. They make incredibly delicious Thai iced tea, and I was so impressed with their chicken satay, "pocket shrimp," and noodles, that I brought my folks there the last time they visited from back east. I don't remember what they ordered, but they LOVED it - and my folks are NYC foodies, so that's saying something. The woman who owns the place is the sweetest, most gracious woman you could hope to meet. The restaurant itself is rather cramped, but the decor is full of beautiful Thai artwork, and if you're lucky, the owner might throw in a free cup of soup or dessert. Blink and you might miss it, so keep your eyes peeled for this hidden gem. The only thing that made me sad on tonight's visit is they still advertise sticky rice w/ custard, but they no longer make it :( Still awesome.

We used a restaurant.com certificate here. We had to order a lot of stuff to get to the $35 minimum. I got a delicious chicken soup (not Tom Yum) and it was super creamy and lemongrassy, and absolutely delicious. I think I would have licked the bowl if I could. The chicken satay skewers were very good (I don't think I've ever had this dish that knocked my socks off though). My massaman curry was delicious and not too sweet as it sometimes can be. It was packed with peanuts, potato, onion, carrot and chicken. Nom. My eating partner got a duck dish that he didn't love. He said the duck was done well, but the sauce was really sweet and almost syrupy, to which I had to concur. It was really sweet. Next time he would just order differently. The woman who served us was wonderful. I loved her. At the end, we had some leftovers and she even brought us extra rice to take home with the food. Great prices, great service, and really good Thai food. I will def be back here and would not be surprised to raise this review to a 5 star!!! Thanks Yelpers for helping me find this place!

Little did I know one of the best freakin' Thai food places was literally right down the street from my home within walking distance. Inconceivable! I originally totally overlooked this place...wedged in-between the San Deigo Sandwich Company and Serra Mesa Market and decked out in greenery to boot. Long story short, curiosity had won a day and I walked in to see what I could see...through the welcoming screen door entrance you must go! The place is small and homey inside. They squeeze a lot of tables into a compact space. Bits of Thai decor in every direction. Random baubles I couldn't identify...except for one: A GINORMOUS TOME edition set of "A Tales of Two Cities" stacked up to the right of the register. That totally makes sense! But I digress. I ordered. I waited. I ate it. 4.8 1/2 stars out of 3* Fucking Ace! Addendum: The Thai lady owner(?) is a power server and talker but her Thai accent was so thick I couldn't comprehend every third word. Then scrambled sentence structure said hello and I was completely lost. Revert to default response: "Yeah" (It works!) *Thai food ratings cap at 3 because their spicy 1-10 scale is just so damn inconsistent (i.g., worse than [insert clever "easy to relate to" reference about some other terribly inconsistent rating scale) and thus they've never given me the real OG Thai 10 spice so I gotta regulate!

Just finished eating take out from Thai Pepper Cuisine...or as I affectionately refer to as TP Cuisine ;) The decor is unassuming to say the least but inside was very clean. The owner and his staff were extremely friendly and offered me complimentary Thai tea even knowing that I was ordering take-out. They were very pleasant and chatted with me while I waited for my food. I was craving my favorite dish Haw Mok (see below and pics) and even though it was not on the lunch menu provided they cooked it for me anyway. To me a Thai restaurant is best judged on its greatness and level of authenticity based on how it makes a few dishes. One of those dishes is called "Haw Mok", a mix of seafood in a spicy creamy basil and red pepper infused coconut sauce, traditionally served in banana leaves. TPC's Haw Mok was very good. Probably second to Swaddee Thai in Coronado but still very good and cheap. What I do really like about TPS is that they don't skimp on the spiciness for gringos. It was eye-watering spicy but that is how I like it. If you want mild Thai food tell them to lower the spice level. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience and I look forward to trying their curry dishes. 4.6/5.0

My girlfriend and I came here during a Saturday for lunch. We both visited Bangkok over the summer and we were craving authentic Thai food. Thai Pepper, did not disappoint. Although, my girlfriend said that their cooking is sweetened for the liking of Americans (She's Singaporean), to me it was like having lunch back in Bangkok again. We ordered the Tom Yum soup, Thai Pepper Basket and the Steak Salad. All the dishes tasted delicious and the portions are a good size. We didn't order it, but we had the Mango Sticky rice dessert in Bangkok, and if you still have room for desert, that would be my pick. I would definitely recommend this place, especially to the service members that are living in the military housing nearby, because I used to stay there but never found out about this place. Lastly, Julie is a sweetheart, service at Thai Pepper also deserves a 5 Star.

My kid's hair was getting a bit shaggy so I took them to my husband's favorite barber over in Serra Mesa (Happy Barber 2). As soon as we were done we noticed a flyer pinned on our windshield under our wiper blade. Huh, an add for a Thai place across the street. Didn't think much of it as I was tossing the ad into the back of the van to continue on with my day running errands. Fast forward to two weeks later... I am with my husband trying to decide on a good place to go out to eat. Feeling adventurous I suggested the Thai place I had received a flyer about. Of course in the deep black hole that I lovingly refer to as "The Mothership" I couldn't find the add but we decided to check it out anyway. As we walked in we noted the casual yet comfortable atmosphere of the place. As a bonus they were running their portable AC as it was unbearably hot outside. The waitress allowed us to chose to sit wherever we'd like, promptly handed us menus and asked what we'd like to drink. My husband the creature of habit that he is ordered the Thai Iced Tea while I stuck with the iced water. After speaking with the waitress she decided to go ahead and honor the 10% discount that was advertised on the coupon and we were happy as could be. Somehow though an order was mixed up with another table and we received someone else's order of spring rolls by another waitress. Our waitress noticing the mistake offered to give us the spring rolls instead of the 10% discount because of the mistake and my husband who was already drooling at the sight of them gladly agreed. I personally believe we got the better end of the deal anyway. I immediately logged onto my handy dandy Yelp app to see what everyone recommended and so we decided to order the Chicken Peanut Noodle and the Eggplant Tofu with a spicy level of 4/10. The food arrived pretty quickly and as promised by my fellow yelpers it was AMAZING! My only complaint is that I have been back a couple more times and there isn't any consistency with the levels of spiciness from one dish to another or one day from another, but I am OK with that. I will be back and have already become a regular on Yelp because of it.

My 3rd updated review on this place. Has it really been 2 years since the last one? Anyhow, this Thai restaurant in my neighborhood still serves delicious food. From my previous 2 reviews, this is what I can add for an update. -Apparently, its under new ownership but the original chef remains. -The restaurant updated its look with a brand new coat of paint. -The servers are younger and the service is faster. -Turnaround time for food is notably faster. Wait is less than 10 mins vs. waiting 30 mins in the past. -Free Thai Iced Tea during certain times however, I noticed the last time I dined here late afternoon that it was not charged on my tab. NICE! Since the restaurant opened a few years ago, I'd have to say it improved and I may have to dine here more often when I crave Thai food. I have to say I'm impressed that this restaurant alone serves complimentary Thai Iced Tea during certain times. If this becomes a more permanent fixture, I'd definitely be bringing in the kids here more often too and spread the word. Hint. Hint. Like I mentioned in 2010 and in 2011, I definitely recommend this restaurant.

This is my second time coming here, and it's definitely a little gem. It's right down the street from my house and I always forgot they are located so close because they're a small hole in the wall. Their service is always prompt and they never get too busy, so the wait is never long for your food. The decor is cute and the food is delicious. I'll definitely order from here again.

This place is amazing and very authentic. My husband is Thai, and I've visited Thailand a couple of times. The food here is the closest thing to eating in Thailand that we've had. The service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was very much like Thailand. We highly recommend trying this restaurant!

I began having lunch here once a week on May 29, 2014 I have been returning once a week ( today is Nov 2, 2014 ). I very much like Massaman Curry with Chicken, in fact it is the only dish I have ordered. Others who come with me have tried quite a few other dishes. I order it "Matt Style" (the Thai server's name is Matt, it is thickened with peanut butter) rather than the thinner less spicy "American Style". The Lunch sized portion is less than $9.00, for one dollar more a dinner sized portion is available but without the egg roll, salad and soup. Jim

We love it here!! The food is delicious. Our server and chef were also very accommodating. My wife loves beef learn but they only had chicken larb on the menu. They still made the beef larb for us!! They are awesome. We can see why they have such high ratings here on yelp. We will be back in the future!

Thai food is a different experience with each place you go to... And my experience at Thai Pepper was OUTSTANDING. Let me start with the service... super helpful and patient while my bf and I perused the menu for some good eats. Now the food... my god almighty the food.... I ordered Panang Curry and my bf ordered Pad See Ew with broccoli. Now, I always say how fresh and flavorful food is in my reviews... But if I were to leave it at that, I'd be doing an extreme disservice to the mouth watering, lip licking, stomach satisfying experience that is Thai Pepper. I have never really said "MMMM" after eating a bite of ... ANYTHING. But that definitely happened here. The prices are super reasonable... Especially when you take into account how much food you get. I mean, you will more than likely have leftovers... Unless you trade and share "halfsies" like I did. Anyway, the point is, you will NOT be disappointed if you go to Thai Pepper. From service and experience to food and overall satisfaction... this place will definitely have you coming back for more!

Wait time for food was pretty long. Took 30 minutes for fried rice which is pretty ridiculous. I asked for spicy fried rice and the dish was not spice at all. The rice had good flavor, but the wait time was just a huge buzzkill. Probably won't be back

Great food. I started coming shortly after they remodeled in 2013. Love the style and the friendly staff. Family owned. I would come weekly until I moved out of town. Now it is a sure stop every time I come to San Diego! Love the tum yum, nam sod, and yellow curry. Always a toss up between what's best.

I come to Thai pepper about 2-3 times a week for the past two months and I haven't been disappointed yet. I get a beef red curry with a seven spice level and it's the best curry I've ever had. I keep coming back thinking that it can't be as good as the last time and every time I'm blown away. I love Thai Pepper and I'll be coming back 2-3 times a week forever. I highly recommend this place to anyone who's looking for delicious Thai food or a new favorite spot.

I have eaten here about 10 times and always LOVED the food. I've brought 5 or 6 different people here to dine and they always LOVED it too! Ate lunch here today and it was not the same! Boo! Sad unhappy face inserted here :( Salad was limp and had weird pinapple flavord dressing that tasted like a 1950 jello salad. Soup had wayyy tooo much lemongrass in it so was overwhelming. my husband's vegetable curry was overpowered with ginger but the veggies didn't taste like anything-same with my prik khing curry-veggies were kind of raw and the chicken was super soft like it had barely been cooked-ick! Sauce tasted good though-so I guess they have the sauces made already and then cook the veg/meat and add to it. The egg roll was good and the people are always really nice.

This place is great! I got the pad thai and it was absolutely amazing and it came with a bonus of free thai iced tea! I couldn't even finish all the food on plate because there was so much. The portion was big considering the price. It came out pretty fast and the service was great. Also, I really liked how they were playing movies on the tv. I would definitely come back here again. Thai Pepper Cuisine is my new favorite place for Thai food.

Came here for the first time with my bf because we were craving Thai food. So I decided to get the massaman curry with chicken and it was really good! My bf got the pad Thai and it had so much flavor like it was legit pad Thai! That was really good as well. I don't like spicy so I was happy when they gave us the option to pick out the spice level! The portion was good enough for two people!! Great food and good service!

Ummm YES. Everything about this place from the food to the service is SPOT ON and I'm just sad I didn't discover this place sooner. Spicy Noodles: These noodles definitely packed some heat for a spiciness level of 3. I was sweating by the end of it but, did not regret it at all! Delicious, pan fried, flat rice noodles with slices of beef, basil, and bell peppers--oh my, YES PLEASE! This was definitely a favorite. Incredible amount of flavor in this dish that left me wanting more after we were done. Prik Khing Curry: This was an equally delicious dish and interesting because it's a dried curry. The spices are reminiscent of a sweet tamarind sauce which, kept dish light and appetizing. The ingredients were cooked right and it wasn't served in a heavy sauce which, is a nice alternative to your usual curry. It's definitely worth trying and according to our waitress, this type of curry is a version of a home cooked dish you would typically find in a Thai household. Lad Na: This dish wasn't as memorable compared to other things we ordered here. The beef tasted a bit old but, it wasn't awful..just not the best thing to get. Wild Boar Curry: If there is one thing you get here, let it be this curry! My first time having boar and it wasn't gamey at all. The curry was sweet, creamy and flavorful with so much dimension in its' spices (and they even put actual sprigs of peppercorn in there!). This dish was definitely inventive and new and we LOVED IT. Our waitress was the sweetest lady EVER! She was attentive and informative about the dishes and the menu AND she gave me refills on my Thai tea just because "we looked so happy together that it made her happy,"...now, that is some pretty sweet service right there.

Such a sucker for small family owned businesses and this one is near to my heart!!! I mean this Thai girl loves and misses her Thai food!! The restaurant is owned by an actual Thai family from Thailand so yes the food is definitely legitimately authentic. I frequented the restaurant a few times just for several nostalgic tastes of home and I couldn't have been happier with the many options that are offered. Yes Pad Thai, and Spicy Fried Rice and Curries OH MY!! Prices are super reasonable, portions are generous and special orders are a breeze. A few words of caution and disclaimers though: - The family is new to the restaurant business so it seems as though things may appear unorganized and hectic at times but they are learning and are eager to hear constructive feedback. - It was hard to find the place at first but after you know where it is, you can't seem to miss it. Parking is easy and plentiful. - The restroom is located in the back through the kitchen. Now personally I like to walk through the kitchen to see the state of it but I can see how some might be put off by this. BONUS: - 10% military discount for dine in and take out orders!!! Overall I am sure I will frequent the place over and over again each time I am in San Diego.

I order take-out here sometimes. The pad thai is good but ask for it slightly spicy or it will be bland. The guy at the register is pretty nice too. It can get busy sometimes but we are usually waiting on other people to pay, not the restaurant.

We got the Penang curry and drunken fish. It was my first time here and i was surprised my friends didnt order the usual pad thai, fried rice. Or pad see ew we usually get at thai restaurants. Good thing, because the food was delicious. Everything is full of flavor! You enjoy every bit and the textures are pleasing. I like this place because I'm introduced to dishes that just seem more authentic. Our server was this very sweet woman. She was so cute and social. I like the environment it feels so homey and really focuses on the food.

My wife lived in Thailand so we are pretty particular about Thai food. This hit the mark. Som Tum, Panang Curry and Pad Thai. We measure Thai food based on those staples. 3 for 3. I just wish we loved closer. Highly recommend.

I can't say enough about the service, food, cleanliness and environment of this petite little Thai place. The owners, though I dont know their names and should, are the sweetest and will accept any request you may ask of. The food always comes out hot and well presented while if you are here jsut to do some work and be in a quiet nice setting, it certainly beats starbucks. Good Food, Great Service and affordable..... Does it get better?

BF & I went here for dinner tonight. It's near where I live and I know BF likes spicy food and I'm not into spicy food. Went here ordered some mild spicy food. Love the crispy chicken basil. Ordered the seafood yellow curry and even asked if its mild. The lady said its mild. The lady who were serving us noticed how spicy it is for me since she saw me drinking a whole lot of water. She asked if its too spicy for me and even told me she's going to have it re-done. Make it more milder because she saw me drinking loads of water. It was so nice of her to have it re-done. Food were decent. The price was reasonable as well.Would definitely go back. Excellent service.

I'm in the area and wanted Thai looked to Yelp to help me out. The reviews said some important key words that I look for Authentic, Flavorful, Fresh and great service. We arrived during lunch and ordered: Appetizer Cream cheese wontons - They were browned perfectly one of the best I've had, they fill them with carrots and green onions w/ a touch of sugar to sweeten up the taste. ( they were delicious I ate them all and left wanting more) Lunch #1 Spicy Noodles w/shrimp spicy #4 - It came with soup not certain of the name it did seem authentic but it was to salty and way too fishy for me and lacking the sour tangy taste I've now grown accustomed to. Though I did like all the fresh veggies they put in. ( I can handle fish sauce but not this time I've never been unable to finish a cup of thai soup until today) The spicy noodles were good big pieces of pasta about 5-6 shrimp in the serving with plenty of vegetables tomatoes, onions, red & green bell peppers good flavor (but to mushy and overcooked compared to other Thai restaurants) nothing spectacular I've had better. Salad served with was nice and fresh yhe dressing was good and tangy w/ aa lemony banana flavor to it (a refreshing new taste different than peanut dressing which I love as well) Lunch #2 I ordered one of my favorites Basil Chicken w/double chicken (that I was charged for but they forgot to add) Thhe chicken dish smelled great it came with the same salad, soup, aand steamed rice. The chicken was a bit undercooked for me .... but I let it sit for a minute before eating the flavor was different in a good way they add ginger, star of anise and clove which gave the dish a combination of flavors that work well together. Veggies but again (overcooked to a mushy state) it just seemed to overcooked I couldn't enjoy the crispness of the vegetables like I like. Everything was good nothing to brag about the service wass good. I'll definitely stick to my usual Thai restaurant "Bamboo Thai Cuisine" in La Mesa it's a drive but well worth it once you get there. If in the area I'd stop in again. ..... Please note Thai food is my addiction and I've visited over 15+ restaurant's so I know hidden gems when discovered.

Having a Thai place this close to my house is a bad bad idea. The curries have depths of flavor I haven't experienced in a long time and I eat out a lot. The Thai dumplings are a meal unto themselves and are also awesome. The Tom Ka soup which I had with chicken and shrimp was blissful - and I don't use that adjective lightly. My only caution is when they ask how hot they want something, be careful! I asked for my first curry to be a 5 and while tasty, I was sweating like a porcine beast. The next time around 3 seemed to be the sweet spot. I cannot imagine what 10 would taste like. It may be like eating napalm...

I love Thai food. I think the world knows that by now. I'm actually a little too snobby about Thai food, so I'm glad I didnt need to rip apart the place with my review. I liked this place, and it gave a friendly moment of happiness for someone who really wanted some good food for Lunch. Bravo. Lunch Menu Food: - Drunken Noodles ($6.95): Portion wasn't huge but it was decent for the price and time of day. Noodle consistency was on a slightly softer side but the thick noodles was pleasant and still the al dente you'd want in Drunken noodles. I loved the smoothness of their soy sauce and the sweet but spiciness that came from every bite. The chicken was slightly on the lesser flavorful side but it still balanced out from the other flavors. Great and safe dish to try. HINT: Want enough of a spicy kick but still very much enjoy the dish? Stay within a 2-3 spicincess range: it was perfect! - Tom Yum Soup: I'm used to having very hearty tom yum but this was a great appetizer. The spices used were refreshing and really gave it a nice comfort kick to such a national soup. Pros: - Casual dining with a few Thai culture flares throughout the restaurant - Waitress was really kind and attentive to our needs. Thanks for always refilling our water! Like...always. Hawk eye. - Pretty affordable. I mean it. Cons: - A little bit in the middle of nowhere. Meh. Thai Pepper, you know I'll be back. Thanks for providing a positive experience.

We live in the neighborhood and finally decided to give this place a try last night, which also made for a nice walk before / after dinner. The place always looks empty whenever we drive by, so we've been kind of hesitant to give it a chance. I was on yelp searching for dinner options and was surprised to see that this place had received such high praise, so that sold us on going... and I'm glad we did! Great service, cozy atmosphere, large menu selection, and tasty food! We will definitely be back to this little hidden gem.

I got the combination special pad Kari S.F suki combination and it was too salty. But the free thai ice tea was nice and so was the spicy bamboo entree

Sooo good! Had Thai dumplings, Tom Kar Soup & Pad Thai. We were happy with all of it. Plus big portions for lunch tomorrow! Great service, too. I like the vibe. Comfy seats, too.

Every single thing is amazing. I had Tom Yung soup, then Tom Khah soup, then split Drunken Noodles and Massamon Curry. All of it was amazing. Salad dressing is made from FRESH pineapples. Gonna be going back very often.

Quick, affordable, tasty food and friendly service. Have both eaten in and gotten take out and it's a nice addition to the area. Thus far I've tried: Fried Spring Rolls - Nothing out of the ordinary. Typical deep fried goodness. Yum Nua (grilled beef salad) - Tasty. Good amount of lime and I like the raw red onion. Hot Basil - Decent. Cashew Nut - Perhaps a bit heavy on the fish sauce for some people, but I like it. Eggplant - Favorite. Slightly salty and funky. Sizzling Chicken - Nice mix of meat and veggies. A safe bet for someone who likes East Coast style Chinese food and maybe hasn't tried Thai food. Dancing Squid - No longer on the menu, but they'd probably make it if you ask. Spicy stir fried squid with veggies.

Good pineapple fried rice, it's moist, soft and tasty. Chicken is very much on the skimpy side. Had to wait more than half hour for the food even though they don't look that busy, but the people are nice and polite about it. Good job!

Its not a fancy place, but it does have charm. from the indonesian art on the table to the food- you feel like your eating authentic thai food. The people who work there are so nice; they make the experience even better. My all time fab is Tom Kha soup with brown rice. Once I got it on the table- the vegetables were so fresh that they actually gave a light crunch as I ate. My husband had the mango curry chicken and I tasted and thought that was good too. If your in the area and tired of convoy, take a 5 minute drive to Thai pepper. The first time I did, I became their fan.

  • Errin S.

Stopped by for some takeout and walked in to a quiet scene, courteous and attentive staff and quick service. After I ordered they told about how long it would take and they were spot on. They also offered me a drink while I waited. I had Panang Curry with chicken, and beef Satay. When asked about the level of spice for the curry I requested "5", however I'm not sure about the range of the scale. For my taste it turned out about medium. Not complaining just an FYI. The curry and satay were both delicious. I'll definitely be returning.

We've been to many Thai restaurants in San Diego and this is our favorite Thai restaurant. Their food is the best tasting, the price is affordable, and it's close to home. Try the Mango curry.

I love the home feel I get when I come into this place. The waitress is awesome, she's very hospitable. Her hair due reminds me of my old friend sharkiesha! Lol If you want Thai food, but don't know what to order just ask her for a recommendation and she'll do your taste buds good! Service can be a little slow because she is the only waitress and this place is more of a order to go vs a sit down. All in all good Thai food, but I've had better but it'll do :)

The food here is amazing!! The best Thai food in San Diego. You can taste the quality in every bite. I had the shrimp pad thai and it was perfectly made. The noodles, sauce and shrimp was cook to perfection. If your picky and your taste buds won't settle for anything mediocre then you need to come here!! You will definitely be satisfied.

  • Hannah E.

I am almost certain the wild boar curry we ordered that everyone raved about was just plain pork, and overcooked pork at that - but still, the curry itself was so delicious it almost didn't matter. We had about four tablespoons left, and still took it home. The thought of leaving it behind was just abhorrent. Watch out for the hidden green Thai chilies: they're variable, and by variable I mean they range from bell-pepper to lip-tingling hot lava. The shrimp salad was really well balanced, with just enough onions and chilies and cilantro and lime and dry spices to highlight the flavor of the shrimp. Unfortunately the shrimp's freshness, and therefore flavor, was questionable. It was a little bleachy and had those white freezer-burn splotches on the shell. As people have said, the lady who takes care of you is super friendly.

Let me tell you I have had my fair share of Thai, and this place is legit, matter of fact I called my friend MC hammer and I asked him "Hammer what do you think of Thai Pepper Cuisine?" He told me " Who the f!#* is this, and why do you keep calling me and my family, just leave us alone." What I think he meant to say was , man Thai pepper Cuisine is 2 Legit.... IT'S 2 LEGIT TO QUIT! The food I had was bomb, the prices are in a good range, the owners are from Thailand, (none of that thai knock off family) and It was awesome. If you don't believe me go try for yourself and then hit up my compliments section.

I've been meaning to leave a review since they remodeled This place is great. Great service and they give free Thai iced tea and coffee from 3pm -5pm. I usually get tom yum and chicken pad thai which are my favorites, but everything is delicious. I've tried all the Thai places on convoy and this is my favorite About 2 miles from convoy and worth the drive. And although they say that they are closed 3-5pm they are open. They changed ownership when they remodeled and are now open.

Yup, this is my neighborhood go-to spot for all Thai food cravings, and I'm a tad disappointed in myself I didn't prioritize this review higher on my list of reviews, cuz I gots madddd luv for this spot. My sis and I stopped by one day after running errands in the area because she mentioned she read reviews from Yelp on it. It's definitely an unexpected place, in the middle of Serra Mesa suburbia, in a teeny tiny strip of businesses along Sandrock Road. As soon as we walked in, the aroma's of Thai spices told me right away that our meal was gonna be LEGIT and it was! This spot has a really diverse menu, and a great lunch special with everything under 10 bucks, most things under 8. They serve HUGE portions too, and will happily customize any order, to substitute whatever you want. My fave is good old pad thai, as this place has one of THE best pad thai dishes I've ever had. I've also had their Larb chicken, drunken noodles, Panang curry, green curry, and most recently Praram (with tofu instead of chicken) and everything is outstandingly yummy and authentic. In fact, once during lunch, one of the cooks came out and did a brief prayer to the Buddha statue... I love that it's so awesomely authentic. Nuthing against Mexicans cooking every meal in every restaurant in SD, but when a restaurant specializing food from a different country has actual cooks from that country, it's a better guarantee of awesomeness on your plate. Aside from the good food, this place has the BEST customer service. The main server, Oy, is the sweetest freakin' lady you will every meet. She knows me and all of my family and our significant others by name, and even asks about everyone any time each of us comes in. And she's totally genuine about it! Her customer service, the yumminess of each dish, and the great prices make this my most favorite-test Thai restaurant ever. I'm kinda sad for all the bad reviews... but it don't phase me, I love this spot.

My gf and I were craving thai food while visiting San Diego and found this place on Yelp and it had a lot of reviews so we decided to eat here. It was the right decision because this place was hella good. The pad thai was very flavorful and the curry was delicious as well. Not bad for 8.95 a plate. Great service too.

Amazing and authentic Thai that we've been searching for since our return from Thailand! We've been meaning to try this little gem for a while and are now upset we hadn't sooner. Ordered: Spring Rolls -- standard but delish Pad See Ew -- perfect flavors and plenty of vegetables Tom Kar Soup -- the best in San Diego, perfect creaminess, great spice. I would have loved more mushrooms, but.... A must try! And carryout is super fast!

I just came home from having dinner here and I just had to write a review. It's been a long time since I've had such a positive restaurant experience. Thai Pepper pretty much encompasses everything I want when I go out to a meal: delicious food at good prices combined with great service and convenient parking? Yes, please. My fiance and I ate here on a whim. He's been to Thailand and frequently ate at a restaurant in Japan run by a Thai family. He said eating this food just took him back there. We had beef pad thai and red curry at a Level 5 and 3 spice, respectively. The warmth and spice was flavorful but not too overpowering. The restaurant atmosphere is simple, cozy, and warm. The service was very attentive; our water glasses were always full. And they asked us our Netflix preferences while the TV was on. :) Plus, I was listening to the family dining next to us. They called the staff over to say, "You didn't include this on our bill!" - they had comped them on their Thai tea without mentioning it. Last but not least, we asked for a business card but the young man at the register said they were all out. As we walk out to the car, we see the lady running the restaurant out back at her vehicle behind the store. She waves hello; we wave back. And she comes by and gives us the business card we asked for! Really a very sweet operation and a wonderful experience all around. They just jumped up to my short list of favorite local restaurants.

This restaurant rocks! This is our favorite take out restaurant in our neighborhood. We always order the same thing. We get Pad see ew with chicken, panang curry soup with chicken, Thai fried rice with chicken and Fresh rolls with shrimp. Everything is made to order, always hot, and served with great personalized customer service!

Chicken satay and beef pad see ew are delicious!! I prefer this food and service compared to koon Thai. Would come back again to try more food

Walked in and ordered ToGo. After waiting about 40 mins, I asked about my order. Apparently they make the dine in dishes first! And to top it off, they didn't make my 4th entree as I ordered. Im not going back here. Update - although I wrote that right up above as I was walking out of their restaurant, after eating the Fried Rice and Pad Thai, I might come back to this place. The Fried Rice is really good!! Pad Thai was good, but nothing out of the ordinary

I have been living here in San Diego for over 7 years and all of those years it has been here at Serra Mesa. I have never tried Thai food before so therefore I never really paid attention to this place so little I know this little meal I had with my aunt and my mum (who has been here before) will be probably the best meal I've ever had (I posted the pictures of what we got. Not sure of their names though). After this meal I have decided to bring my girlfriend and my friends to try them out. You guys just got a regular costumer! I'm ready for more!

Been here a couple times had the red and Panang curry lunch specials. Both were great and came with salad, egg roll and soup. Flavors weren't as intense as other Thai places but still tasty. Gonna try something different next time I go here.

I love this place so much. This is my go-to Thai place. The tom kah is amazing, the panang curry is awesome, the drunken fish is good, my boyfriend loves the papaya salad, the sriracha vegetables are awesome. All of the sides are delicious. Literally everything I've had here is delicious. And the last time I went they were doing a free thai tea special. The service is also awesome here. Seriously, eat here!

    (5)
  • Julia S.

It took a long time for us to get seated, or even acknowledged. We contemplated leaving. I got a level 5 spiciness on the spicy noodles and there was literally no spice at all - and I'm sensitive to it! Tasted decent otherwise.

    (3)
  • Frances K.

One of my favourite lunchtime spots - I usually get a sweet chicken curry like Yellow curry or their special Mango curry and it is consistently amazing. The other people I eat with are a bit more adventurous and try lots of different dishes, and they have never been disappointed. I think it is a bit spicier than other Thai restaurants in the area - I would normally order spice level 5 at those places, but at Thai Pepper Cuisine I order spice level 3 (out of 10). But the great thing is that even at the high spice levels (I hear) they maintain really good flavour in addition to the heat.

The mango curry is delicious! I know it might be strange but I like the softness and the texture And when u write review you get a free Thai tea

PEACHD* REVIEW - I chose the Chicken Pad See Ew option for lunch delivery. I'm always a big fan of Pad See Ew. It is my go-to dish for most Thai restaurants. PACKAGING - EXCELLENT. The Pad See Ew was wrapped in foil to keep warm and the potsticker and salad were placed in other sections. Even the salad dressing had a little container. FOOD - As a lunch meal. It was excellent. I only expected the noodles for the delivery but was glad to see that I got the lunch special that they probably regularly serve. The Pad See Ew was definitely enjoyable. It had an excellent garlic flavor without being overwhelming. It wasn't all that greasy either from what I could tell. Potsticker was good. Salad with the yellow dressing is good too. WOULD I TRY THE RESTAURANT? - yes. I definitely would if I'm in the area. Thanks Peachd and thanks Thai Pepper Cuisine for the meal. * Peachd is a food delivery service that delivers lunches from local restaurants to companies around San Diego.

You know what I like about this place? The location is great, the food is cheap, the portions are great and the food tastes pretty good! I took my mom here and we ordered their lunch specials. They have a pretty big menu, btw. Great seating and great service during a weekday during lunch hours! I had their Pad See Ew lunch special and my mom had their Spicy Noodles. Their food was not oily and greasy, and it had a lot of good flavor! I was surprised for the deal we got! Their salad dressing was a peanut dressing, which might as well of been crack sauce! All in all, we left full and it was light on the wallet! I must try this place again and update my review! Definitely a good Thai food place coming from a dude who's eaten Thai all his life.

Cool Thai restaurant not far from Montgomery Field. It's a little out of the way from convoy but we have been wanting to try it. Their Nam Sod is very tasty. Their Praram beef came with generous portions of peanut sauce! :) would come here again.

My lord the food is so amazing and the portions are so big (you could feed two with one plate!). The price is so perfect too. The spice level was on point for me (a spicy food addict). Just wished I could've experienced this the first time I tried coming to the restaurant!

This is a small restaurant off the beaten path of Convoy with incredible Thai food! Their pad see eww is a must try. I'm a regular here and I will never tire of getting my Thai food fix from them.

Dined in, and the food was excellent. However, the service was a bit slow. Very friendly service, was great in general, but the food came out a bit slow, so if you are in a rush this is not your place. The well reviewed soup was on point, the Green garden has amazing veggies compared to any other thai place, and the peanut sauce was delicious.

    1. Wontons had writing on them from a wrapper label-no biggie. 2. Found hair in our noodles. 3. Charged us gratuity for having 5 people-my daughters are 2yrs and 5yrs, I served my daughters from my plate. We only ordered 3 plates. When I inquired about the "open food no tax" charge on the receipt, the waiter was very rude. He said he had to charge us gratuity for having 5 people. I explained that he did not serve 2 of the 5 and we did not even order 5 entrees. He stated "are they a person"? To avoid a confrontation in front of my children, I decided to pay and leave. 4. I am usually a very big tipper but this was uncalled for, I think they wanted to charge us because we returned the noodles with the hair in it. If anything we should of received a discount... I posted a picture of my receipt. Click on the picture to see clearly!

This review is for take out only. They have the best Thai food around. We always order the Pad See Ew, Pad Thai and one of the curry dishes. My two fav are the Panang and Massaman Curry. The service is always great and food consistently delicious. They also offer a 10% off military discount.

Back in again and this time I'm not dinning in but I'm getting it Togo. This place gets kinda crazy because your food is freshly made therefore you have to wait but it is worth it. Got me pad see ew again bc it is the best I ever had. I did went to eat at Siam and Thai spices and they are no where nearly as good as this that place. I also got a new plate too...nam sod. It looks like larp and I'm excited!!!!

Love love love Thai Pepper! It's my go to spot for a great pad thai! I can't tell you how many times I have popped in to place a pick up order (not calling ahead, just stopping in) and I have NEVER waited more than 5 minutes! Super fast, super fresh, super delicious! I have tried a few things on the menu and every time it has been on point. I recently went and dined in for the first time with my husband and was very pleased. It's just a little hole in the wall eatery; simple, no frills. But my water glass was always full, server checked on us regularly, and our food came out super fast, fresh, and delicious! The staff is always friendly and helpful too. This is definitely going to become a regular thing!

The food is fresh and delicious!! The service was great. I am so glad I tried this restaurant. I went for lunch yesterday and had the mango chicken curry lunch special which was amazing! There was lots of lemon grass and basil which made the flavor incredible. We went back today and I had the thai pepper basket. Spicy and delicious!! Also, the prices are very reasonable. A must try restaurant!!

Hidden Thai food gourmet! We went here for lunch and what a great decision it was. From the get go the waiter was attentive with everything. For lunch we get soup, salad, and fried dumplings. We order fried chicken basil, flat noodle with pork, flat noodle gravy with pork, and beef satay. The whole meal was dericious and all of us what a satisfied group. This is going to be our go to spot for Thai food every time we are in the area.

I've had Pad Thai at many Thai restaurants in SD and I would put this place just a notch below my favorites. I ordered Pad Thai chicken for take out with a spice level of 6. My order was ready when I arrived about 20 minutes after I called it in. First off, the portion was huge! I was very hungry and still couldn't quite eat the whole thing. The spice level was on point, just a touch more than medium, which is how I like it. No need to have an extra pitcher of water handy nor add any extra spices. There was a decent amount of chicken and as well as cubes of tofu. For the portion size, the price of under $10 was a solid value. If I lived closer, I'd come here more often, but at least I have a solid Thai place to visit whenever I'm in the Serra Mesa area visiting friends nearby.

  • W. Ryan M.

This place hasn't let me down yet. Usually get noodles of some sort, but today was Red Curry day. Spice scale is 1-10. I'm not a fan of 'snotty nose, can't enjoy the food Hot'. I get a 3-4 here and I am sniffeling but not running to my glass of water every two seconds. (Background, I grew up in New Orleans with Cajun food. I can handle a decent amount of spice\ hot sauce) The Tom Yum soup is pretty damn good here. If your there for a lunch special, you'll get it free. (comes with soup, salad, and entree) Super cheap, and you'll leave stuffed. You can't get muuch better for a lunch menu than that.

We were in the mood for some Thai food and our go to place was packed so we decide to give Thai Pepper a try and we're glad we did! I ordered the shrimp Tom Yum Soup. My pot came out with a flaming torch in the center to keep it hot, a beautiful presentation but I was scared of the fire so the waiter ladled my soup for me. When he first brought if out and started to serve it he noticed there was some chicken in it and said I know you asked for shrimp but there's chicken in here. He smiled and was very casual about it which I found charming but unfortunately I don't eat chicken so I had to send if back. He was very gracious with returning it and bringing me the shrimp instead. I ordered a pot so I could have some leftovers for the next day but it was so good and I'm so greedy that I almost finished the whole pot in one sitting lol. My friends ordered the pad Thai and spicy noodles and enjoyed them both veryyyy much. All in all a good experience. We have a new go to Thai spot now!

Very Disappointed!!! This was my first and last visit. Bf and I came here on a Wednesday night (6/11) for dinner. We arrived ~7:40, saw 2 other couples in the restaurant waiting for their food, we ordered papaya salad, chk pad thai, and eggplant w/ tofu. 1. Food came super late - Papaya salad came at 8:20, which is 35 min after we ordered. (I was checking the time because I was in a middle of laundry) Eggplant arrived around 8:35, and Pad thai about 5 min after. 2. Papaya salad - there was hair in it!! 3. Eggplant - very salty, we had to pour all the sauce out. 4. Pad Thai - Over fried tofu and driest chicken I ever had (see pic), we ate about half and didn't even bother to bring the rest. 5. Service - nada, the only waiter was helping out cooking inside the kitchen 6. Customer service attention** If a customer requested no dried shrimp on a dish (description), it could be due to allergic reaction. When I request no dried shrimp on the pad thai, a waiter should be caution enough to note there are also dried shrimp on the papaya salad (the ones we usually go to do not have dried shrimp on their P.S.). We were a little surprise/upset to see the amount of dried shrimp on the P.S. because my bf is allergic to shrimp. He had a small bite because both of us were starving and had up itching the entire night. :( I'm not sure was that day just off or not. There were at least 4 people working in the kitchen (exclude the waiter), during our wait, there was 1 phone-in and 2 walk in togos, one of them I believe was from a delivery company where the driver was walking back and forth checking the status of the food. At the end he spoke pretty loud saying "The promised delivery time was 8pm, but now is 8:30 and the food still not ready?"

I literally come here for their Tom Yum Soup! The service is great which keeps me coming back for take out orders. Once they made a huge mistake on the order, they apologized and replaced it with correct order with no charge and gave me 20% discount for my next visit. Yes, I know this is how it should be but not all restaurants actually do. I will give them 1 star just for their service. Great job!

Came in with the family late on a Friday night, and of course after being seated mom complains that the seat was too cold. The manager was very nice and moved us immediately to a corner table. We ordered the beef pad see ewe, shrimp pad thai, green seafood curry and chicken larb. They were all delicious and came in large portions. One notable was the chicken larb. Larb has always been one of my favorites and this one did not disappoint! It was well seasoned with just the right amount of spicy kick, garlic and lemon. We'll be back!

This place is Amazing! The food came out in a very timely manner and was absolutely amazing. This made all other Thai places looks like craps! The waitress was very friendly and made great suggestions as to what she thinks would be good to get. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking to try something new. I personally could not be more satisfied.

Food here is always great and the staff is very friendly. This is my wife and I's go-to spot for Thai food. The wonton cream cheese are amazing! The restaurant has a relaxed feel and it's not too loud either. Great place overall!!

The pineapple fried rice is a must order Staff is always friendly when you call for takeout and awesome when dining in. The nice Thai lady who is usually at the register and takes orders is super nice and creates a great dining experience for her guests. But, we all know when it comes to a Yelp review, you are looking for the best in taste and Thai Pepper delivers that (as spicy as you can handle)

Great food! If you're looking for a Thai spot that won't break the wallet and satisfy the cravings, this place is worth the visit! :)

Moving away from Serra Mesa and might just come back cause I love this tried and true Thai place! Been coming here for years now. New management even better than the last. Faves are pad see ew, pad Thai, cashew chicken, spicy noodle, thai pepper basket special and just today tried Siam chicken which was great! I appreciate the extra effort and service they give me when I'm being especially picky (can I have the tails off my shrimp). Definitely recommend!

This is a great hole in the wall find in Serra Mesa. I'm sad that im moving and wont be as close to them for some great and convenient take out. The inside is small but usually it's not too hard to get a table if you rather eat in instead of take out. Thai food is by far my favorite type of food and I am originally from Portland, Or and my absolutely favorite Thai restaurant is in Portland. Everywhere I have gone in San Diego has been a disappointment in comparison, until Thai Pepper. It definitely is on a similar level to my favorite spot back home. I will only get Thai food from here in SD from now on. My favorite is their Massaman curry, cashew nut, pad see ew and pad thai. But everything else I have had there has been very good too! Very affordable too. Thai pepper is a great find!

Fast excellent customer service!! Simple and quaint ambiance. Most importantly, amazing food. I will order spicier next time, because I ordered a 6 spice and it wasn't spicy enough. Thanks Thai Pepper!

Amazing service! Food is the best I've had in San Diego. The Homak Talay is so delicious and is almost impossible to find here in the states. If you want authentic, delicious Thai then this is place is recommend.

  • Afshin K.

Way better than Sab-e-Lee! I was just there a few days before coming here, so it's easy to compare the two. The portions were huge and the prices were similar, but the food here was more flavorful. The location and interior are nice and they even lit a candle at our table. The food took some time to prepare but it came out really fresh so it wasn't sitting in the back. We have the pad thai, spicy noodles, and coconut soup. My only complaint was that the ladle for the soup was larger than the soup pot so it was difficult to maneuver soup into your bowl. We got 4 out of 10 on the spicy scale and it wasn't spicy at all; get more than 5 or use the spices on the table. I've found a new favorite thai place!

Great Papaya Salad and Cashew chicken! Very fresh and excellent flavor & service, with a quiet and clean environment. Recommend for sure and will be back to try the Thai Basil and Pad Thai.

If you don't like this place than just give up on Thai food. We have been to Thailand and this is as good as it gets in the states. We had the red curry and chicken pad thai. Both were amazing and portion size was good and made for sharing. We can't wait to come back and try the other dishes.

Haven't stopped at this place for a long time. While I was eating my lunch, I noticed a flier special saying that if you post a review on Yelp, a free thai tea is offered and posting a food picture on a social media site like facebook our foursquare gives you 10% off. Anyone interested should take the opportunity to try it out.

Pick me up off the ground, because I just fell head over heels in LOVE with this place! I have been here a few times. Each time increases my love for this jewel of joint. The first time, I stopped by here I actually walked by the door and missed it! It truly a hidden gem. Now I know..and NEVER MISS THE PLACE! I have sampled a few dishes and will continue to try the others. The larb is a good choice. It is minced chicken with spices and served with lettuce to make like a lettuce wrap. You cannot go wrong with Pad Thai noodles. There Panang chicken is a delish dish too. This place is small but packs a punch. There are only about 10-12 tables in here. Take out is available and you can call ahead with your order. If you dining in, the service is good. Very polite. Even when I decided to keep the lid off of my sticky rice because I wanted it to be more like mochi and cut it into squares to eat like mochi, the politely told me that if I leave the lid on the rice stays more moist and sticky. When I explained that I liked it to have a more mochi like texture, the guy just nodded his head and smiled (probably thinking oooohhhh crazy lady go ahead have your mochi sticky rice) You will become a fan if you stop by here too.

This Thai restaurant knows the proper use of a beautiful eggplant . As I sit in the restaurant and browse the menu, I saw one eggplant dish come out and I knew what I was having. I asked the server and she told me the dish, the components as well as the techniques involved. She then pointed out three additional eggplant dishes that I may enjoy. I throughly enjoyed the eggplant and have made a note on my phone to return to try the other variations. Amazing!

Don't blink because you might miss this place! Located on Sandrock Road this little hole in the wall has quite some charm and delicious eats. Come on in, seat yourself and the waiter will come by and give you the menu. There are a variety of dishes to choose from and most come with rice or rice noodles that are gluten free friendly which I like. I had the pad see ew beef, thick wild rice noodles and spicy beef with sweet broccoli. Wait staff was friendly and food was made fresh. No public bathroom and not much parking. Will come back again.

Very good and reasonably priced Thai cuisine! Had Fried Thai Chicken lunch special (like chicken katsu) a big serving with soup & veggies included! Only negative was calamari appetizer had a few slighly rubbery pieces. Highly recommended for lunch specials!

Thai Pepper is cool. Convenient, not really wowed compared to other thai restaurants that I've been to. The place smells a little funky, there was only one person working the register so I waited about 2 minutes to hand him my money before he finished the conversation. I get it, if you're short staffed, you'll need to run a Skelton crew, but at least multi task. I was impressed at the decor though. Nice tables, and they were nice and polite despite my register experience. Food was really good though once I got it. I got Pineapple fried rice with vegetables and it was bomb!

Very slow service (two of us came in on Monday evening at 6pm with one other table occupied. Our order came out at 6:pm). I can't imagine what it would be like on a Fri night. Better for take-out instead of dine-in. The air was blasting cold! Can't understand the high rating of this place. Ordered an appetizer that never came.

My girlfriend and I went here one day for lunch. Service was great. The place itself was a little small but well put together. Kind of a hole in the wall place as I would say. If there is such a place- There will be awesome food. And I was right! We went in and got seated. It's a homely decor with Thai Dancers statues. There was about 10 more or less tables. I can hear the servers and chefs in the back speaking in Thai. So I know it's 100% Thai authentic food. We ordered our food on the lunch special and also the regular menu. My girlfriend ordered the lunch special Yellow Curry not spicy (they scale 1-10). I ordered the Larb, Wonton Cream Cheese (surprisingly there was no crab meat like most restaurants would make it. Thumbs up for that!!) and Pad See Ew (they originally make this with oyster sauce but I request for soy sauce instead). Normally with every Thai/Lao food. It's incorporate with seafood ie. Fish sauce, oyster sauce, shrimp, crabs -ect. I have to be very careful because I am allergic to seafood. So I ask the server before making the food if they can make it without seafood. Explaining why I need it to be without seafood. I wasn't to sure if he did understand me. Before our food came out. The server brought us veggie soup then walked away. I didn't eat it because I can smell the fish sauce. So I gave the soup to my girlfriend. She said it was delicious. Remembering that I was allergic to seafood. The server quickly came back to our table to make sure I didn't eat the soup. He looked over and said good you didn't eat it. This made me very sure he did understand what I said! Thank goodness!!! We didn't wait to long for our other food come out and it was delish!! Good enough portions and more for the both of us. If you are ever in Serra Mesa. Try this place out.

Okay, so do not eat here. First, some of the workers lack customer service skills. I came here a lot up until today because the food was good so I didn't really mind the customer service part. However, today there was a damn baby roach in my food. I went back to the restaurant because I had ordered takeout and asked for a refund and the lady had the audacity to ask me if I didn't want another plate. As if I ever wanna eat there again after that. The thing is, it wasn't a gnat or a little fruit fly, I could understand that because those actually fly to the food. It was a damn baby roach, or some sort of related bug. And it was cooked in, I didn't find it until I was halfway done with my food. I'm so disgusted, I could have not been paying attention and not seen it and ate it.

2015 foodolutions in full effect tonight! My husband is sick and wanted nothing other than tom yum soup. Our go to place is closed on Tuesdays so what's a girl to do other than find a new place to eat! We came in for dine in and quickly learned that this place is probably more suited for to-go orders. The woman working while attentive, had her attention split between us another table and the 5-6 phone in and pick up orders placed while we were eating. Not like any arm twisting needs to done to get me to order my favorite green curry but I thought to be fair and compare Thai Pepper to my other favorite places I should order what I usually order. Yeah, this was a good idea, the green curry was so good! Eggplant is my favorite veggie in a green curry and this dish was plentiful! I am conflicted because, sigh...it's like a 10 minute drive here when my usual spots are a few blocks away! I don't see myself coming back for dine in and to pick up would only happen if I was in the area. This is a serious problem. Ever the loyalist, my husband maintains that Bangkok Spices is still his favorite, so now I'm just waiting to get sick so I can make the request of Thai Pepper to go. Or maybe I'll come back and redeem my free thai iced tea for my yelp review!

We only just discovered this place about a month ago. We've come here 5 times. We love Thai and we love spicy foods. Today we ordered our regular, Panang curry at level 5 spice. (We've had an 8 before and it was less spicy) It was so hot we had to send it back. The lady serving us told us that the cook knows how to scoop and we asked for a level 5. We said we asked for various levels of spiciness including level 8 when we have come and even then it was not as spicy as this time. She then said don't ever ask for a five with the largest attitude and snatched it off the table like we were the most difficult patrons she had ever encountered. We have never been treated with such disrespect. We rarely if ever complain at restaurants and this was way too spicy even for two people who eat hot peppers by themselves as snacks, but the attitude from the waitress was what did it for us. We will come back but will not come if she's ever there again and the cook needs to recount his scoops if they have some type of measuring system(as she said they do). This was Tuesday July 21 at 5:20pm.

This place is amazing. The service is excellent every time I'm here with my girlfriend. We live very close so this was one of the first restaurants I tried when I moved from Des Moines, IA to San Diego! They have EXCELLENT Thai iced tea,it's my favorite, I literally crave this stuff. I always get the pineapple fried rice with tofu. It has perfect flavor and is always served nice and hot. Don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have, the servers are very knowledgeable and are sooo nice. This place is a Serra Mesa HIDDEN GEM. Family ran I believe and totally worth every.single.penny. If you haven't been here yet, you're missing out.

Medium spicy is quite spicy. Be careful when you order. Overall, food is delicious! Don't be scared when you come here for the first time and see the sketchy neighborhood, restaurant is clean and nice inside, staffs are friendly. Have to mention the comfortable chairs, makes dinner extra relaxing.

I ordered from here through Eat24 for the first time last night. It's hard to find a Thai restaurant that will make my food like I want it. The usual no fish sauce, no garlic, no msg, prepared w/ little oil, that's it. This place prepared my food exactly as I ordered! Everything was delicious. The order was generous w/ plenty of left overs. Would definitely recommend this place, and will order from here again soon :)

Great family owned restaurant I can't complain, I finally found a great Thai restaurant in San Diego what's so amazing about this place is the authentic foods & spices they are right on point with their Thai entrees most of all they know exactly how to make tofu tasteful in a variety of dishes, for me having that many options with tofu entrees is a plus . Very humble people, it's a place I would definitely bring my family too. It's a very casual environment I love that it's literally 2 mins away from my house and the prices are very affordable. This restaurant is definitely worth a shot for ppl in search of great Thai food.

Great, local spot for some delicious, authentic (Thai family owned and operated) Thai food. Not a fancy place, but nice and clean ~ the place is small, about 13 tables, and the flavor is BIG... Highly recommend if you want some delicious Thai food.

The BEST beef salad (Yum Nua) in all of San Diego! It's like an explosion of so many wonderful mouthwatering flavors. They give you a good portion of marinated tender beef too. Small intimate place, I'm surprised there aren't lines out the door. Very thankful this little gem is in Serra Mesa to add a bit of culture cuisine!

  • Andrew C.

I saw the high reviews and was craving Thai food at the time. The server was really nice and very knowledgable and his advice was most helpful as my food was amazing. I went with a Thai Tea and the Crispy Basil Chicken, both being stellar. The entrees come in varying levels of spiciness, I chose medium and it was perfect, though I could've added more kick with the table sauces. The Thai tea is delicious, I only wish it could've had boba, but apart from that it's perfect. My dad got the steak from the dinner menu and he polished it off fairly quick and throughly enjoyed it. They don't skimp on food so the food return on price is very high.

  • Kimie K.

Another place that I just don't get this high yelp rating. I used to have Thai roommates and oh they spoiled me good. I just...had everything better at many different Thai restaurants. Papaya salad was way too salty. All the ones that I had before was more of sweet and sour taste, but this one was too much on salty side Green curry. Way too much bamboo shoot. The taste was just...plain. But unfortunately this was the best dish we had there. Thai Pepper Basket was spicy, with plain taste. I like spicy food with more complex taste behind spicy (and I am Korean so I can take spicy food), but too bad not much taste behind it. Service was slow, but the server was nice Thai guy. Wish the food was better!

Probably my favorite Thai restaurant ever. Without a doubt the best I've had in SD. Found it when we moved into the neighborhood, and the lady who works there has recognized us every time we've been back! She's a bit batty, and sometimes gets your order wrong, but everything is so good it doesn't matter! Massaman curry is to die for, Tom Kha soup is excellent too. Amazing lunch specials and large portions. Love it!

Awesome food, awesome service! Not really much else to say. I got a huge plate of pad thai with shrimp which was delicious. The place is small so it's nice for intimate meals :) the waitress was also really nice. My boyfriend also got a sweet and sour seafood noodle soup dish...can't remember what it's called, but it's great!

Recommended by a friend as one of the best Thai places around. I had the Larb which was a little salty but which was made over at the insistance of a staff member. It was ok but I wouldn't get it again. My buddy had the pad thai which was good and i may get next visit. Also, the spice rating is closer to what you would expect, so keep that in mind

OK this place was my first time eating Thai food and Thai is my new favorite! Started with the Fresh Rolls with peanut sauce which was delicious. Then had the Pad See Ew mainly because I liked the name. Perfect, lots of meat and tasted great. The portion was huge. Had the Thai Iced Tea which tastes like a milk shake again delicious. I will definitely be back.

Unfortunately I didn't get to try much of the main menu...they ran out of ingredients! Apparently the lunch crowd wipes this place out, so call ahead before making dinner plans. The taste of the appetizers and soup I ordered was just average for me. I'll upgrade my rating once I try more of the menu. Service and cleanliness was top notch. The restaurant isn't that large, so the street parking in front is a good indicator if it's crowded or not. I was a little disappointed they do not serve Thai iced coffee. The waitress explained to me that they can only make it in large batches and that not enough customers order it to justify making a large jug. They do make Thai tea, but that's usually all gone after lunch the lunch crowd has come through.

So I was craving Thai food tonight, and decided to give this place a try based on the ratings it was given by my fellow yelpers. So when we walk in and told them we were ordering To Go, they advised us to have a seat while we wait. I am giving this a 5 star review based on what happened next. Our waitress came up to us and took our order, and told us that it would take a while to get us the food, and explained that they were shortstaffed in the kitchen. She said that we were free to cancel our orders if we didn't want to wait and she would understand. After we assured her that it was okay and we were willing to wait, she brought us out some Thai tea free of charge while we waited. After a little while, our food came out maybe a couple of minutes slower than it would have been expected (in other words, I wouldn't have even noticed). The food is pretty good, but the service is top notch. Five stars.

I stumbled across this place one day when I wanted a good chicken katsu. I was disappointed the hawaiin restaurant was closed and decided to try this little hole in the wall off Sandrock. Wow, am I glad I did. The food is incredible; my favorite is the Tom Kha soup with vegetable and the Chicken Pad Thai. But I have to say the most important part of this experience is the manager, Ooy. What a beautifully, fabulous woman. She knows what heat level I can handle and has never gotten it wrong. I usually get the pad thai and tom kha soup, but last time tried the massamam curry. It was incredible. Please go to Thai Pepper and let Ooy guide you thru the most wonderful experience of your thai eating life.

Thai food cravings are pretty amazing, especially when they're able to be satisfied by something as awesome as this place. I'm a huge fan of spicy food and asian cuisine, so Thai is very high on my list. This place knocks it out in 1 visit and never leaves me unsatisfied. +Papaya Salad +Spring Rolls +Spicy Noodle (with chicken) Those are my must haves ever time I'm there. Also the Thai tea is pretty excellent. I haven't had any of their deserts but I'm told the mango with sticky rice is pretty good! Don't let the area fool you, this place is great! Also portions are LARGE, you can share with someone else if you're dining in very easily.

Thai Pepper is one of my favorite restaurants to go to simply because it's very low-key. I live practically across the street from this place and I barely knew about it until a few years ago. I love coming here with my family and friends because I think they really enjoy the intimacy of this place. You can really tell that this restaurant is very home-oriented. It feels really cozy inside and the Thai decor is absolutely gorgeous. The location is really small, but there are actually a lot of tables. The only thing is that there is no bathroom available. The ladies who work here are really nice. They are always friendly and always strikes up a nice conversation with me, my family, and my friends. There was one time I came here around dinner time with my friends and our server set up the karaoke system for us even though we had told her we initially didn't want to sing but she insisted! Hahaha The food here is really good and has that authentic Thai taste to it. My ALL-TIME favorite thing that I get every single time that I come here and that I recommend (if you have not had it before) is their "Drunken Fish" on the special menu. It is AMAZINGGGGLY DELICIOUS, made just right and the tangy sweet sauce is so addicting! The service here is amazing. There's only really one server and she is the one who will take your order, bring you your food, and give you the check. She's really good about refilling your water too and will always check up on you to see if you need anything else and ask about the food! I always give a good tip whenever I come here because the quality of the food (Drunken fish!!!!) and their service never disappoints me. Around lunch time and early evening, it is less busy than if you were to go around dinner time. Also, be careful when you pick your spice level ;]

One more of my reviews filtered. Fuck you, Yelp. Yeah, fuck you. No, no, that's really what I meant. Fuck you, Yelp. I've been here in the last month or so, and everything I wrote last time remains true. So, once again, fuck you Yelp.

Super flavorful, tangyriffic! Complimentary Tom yum ga mini-bowls to start; green curry is spicy like burlesque dancer wink; drunken fish is perfectly crispy and not overly fry-tasting. Generous frizzled basil on everything and super friendly waitstaff. Very authentic. Decor feels like Thailand with hanging orchids everywhere. Love it!

I absolutely love this little tiny restaurant. I'm always craving their curries and tom yum shrimp soup! The staff is always so friendly and talkative. The dishes do take a while after ordering, so if you're in a rush don't bother. Other than that i definitely recommend!

Came here the other day with some coworkers for some lunch. They have a lot of options for their lunch special, which is great. The service is great - the main lady is very friendly and accomodating. It's hard for me to give any comparison about the food, since I've never gotten tom yum noodle soup anywhere else, but the dish was HUGE and there was a plentiful amount of seafood. The flavor was a little lighter than I'm used to, but nothing some chili powder and that chili infused fish oil couldn't fix! Their spice scale is on the low end here, so if you like spicy food, make sure you crank up your spice level a bit. Looking forward to coming back to try some other things.

We called to order chicken pad thai and the wild boar curry to go, and were told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I arrived in 15 minutes and ended waiting another 20 minutes. The lady who ran the front of the restaurant was nice, but she had to take care of the guests dining in and the guests ordering to go! This really slowed down service. When I got home, I found that they had given us tofu curry instead. I called and had to return to the restaurant to exchange the curry. The lady was apologetic and I waited another 5 minutes for the correct order. The pad thai and wild boar curry was really good. I don't think that it was "wild boar" though, because I have had wild boar before. This seems to be regular pork. We would like to return to try more of the food on the menu, and will try other curries as well! Overall, great food and good prices.

I came here a few months ago and I've been dying to return again! This is the most delicious thai food I've tasted. We ordered: Appetizers: Beef Satay: The beef was delicious and juicy with the perfect seasonings. The peanut sauce that comes with them was delicious too. I REALLY recommend this. Drinks: Thai tea: Refreshing, delicious, creamy with the perfect sweetness and we got a free refill. Pretty cheap too for the size. Main meals: Panang curry: Ordered with a spicy scale of 6. It was to die for! It had the perfect spiciness, very flavorful and a huge serving. The jasmin rice that comes with this is so delicious and aromatic. Pad thai: Delicious too, really peanuty! The service was excellent, our meals came fast and the waitress was really sweet and friendly with us. Definitely going to return again when I got the chance!

This is not my best thai food place but its the best chair in the restaurant ever :P The chair is really comfy in there! have good back supporting About the food, it was actually pretty good, we ordered the yellow curry and beef cashew nut, the beef cashew nut tastes good, the yellow curry tastes a little weird haha, cause they put pineapple in it...most of the thai restaurant they put potato, carrot, onion , this place put different ingredients, totally different recipes This location is really weird but I guess it works out great The waitress there are very nice too Will come back and try different things for sure and will see

Very very good restaurant! Received well by the neighborhood. Try the panang curry hot or medium! Oh-la-la! We often eat here and always order the same thing: Spring rolls $4.95, Pad See Ew with chicken, Beef or pork $7.95, Panang Curry with chicken, beef, vegetable, or pork $7.95 Everything is always consistent, hot, flavorful, and made to order. They always ask what level of hot we would like. I like the medium-low. The hot is also very fun to eat! Customer service is great! They always remember me and ask about the kids, thank you! I gave them 5 stars for the food. This is a hole in the wall restaurant with no curb appeal, and the ambiance is lacking. But, we just order take-out anyway and walk to the restaurant from home!

I love Thai food and this place does not disappoint. Curry is great and they have good lunch specials :). I've gotten take out and I've dined in and both times it has been delicious!!

Oh geez! This place is great. We had the yellow curry and pad Thai noodles and both were epic! It's the first time we have been and loved it. The young man serving was cool and doing his job well. Best thing is They deliver!!!!

"A Cinderella story, out of no where." I don't know if Bill Murray likes Thai Food, but if he does, he'd like the dishes here. Tonight, I had Panang Curry @ spice level 6 and it was very flavorful. A couple cold Chang Thai beers and I was set. There was a line of people but, the one server was attentive and delightful. A small, single room diner with only 12 glass top tables, but a very pleasant experience. Several people came and went with take out. I'll be back.

I'm so glad I work near this place now! I used to live nearby and have missed it lots!! They are always yummy, fresh, and their spicy range of 1-10 will help you get the perfect amount of spicy-ness in your dish. I've been to places where their noodles and other dishes are dry and taste like they've been under a heat lamp - I've never had that experience here!!! Everything is always made to order, in my experience. They are the right amount of busy - never slammed to the point of getting a table but a number of people seem to one here on their lunch break. Staff is friendly and service is quick so great if you've only got an hour!

Besides having a free thai ice tea for writing this review, I think this place is marvelous! They have HUGE portions! Very generous! It is definitely more bang for your buck, which we all should be looking for! I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai that came with a lot! I am a pretty good eater in terms of quantity, but I wasn't going to bloat myself with this amount of Pad Thai. So, I saved it for lunch at work the next day! I'll be back!

Little restaurant but has big flavor! Order chicken pad thai, tom yum with chicken, and vegetable spring rolls and shared between 3 people, very filling! Also service was very fast and it was a pretty full restaurant. The only suggestion I would add is to have wifi that actually works please

I came here on a Saturday night after work half hour before they closed (8:30pm). I get really skeptical of going to places when they're about to close because I, nor most people enjoy "leftovers" before closing time. So I decided anyways, I'll give it a shot. I went in for take out, 10-15 min later my food was hot and ready. I opened up my to go box like a treasure chest and there it was, large portion of the chicken fried rice (a lot more than I was expecting) with big chunks of chicken, tomato, cucumber, green onions, white onions, eggs... It was so delicious that I practically inhaled it! I'll definitely be back! Also, they have there own third party app for delivery. It's called give me delivery. Download it and the coupon code is "giveme5" for $5 off. You're welcome

Placed a delivery order tonight at 820, get the confirmation email at 823. Get a phone call at 851 that says the restaurant refuses to make my order because it's too big and too late. The delivery company said they called 20 mins before they closed at 9 to place the order. Really?!? If you are not going to make delivery or take out orders don't take them. I was really excited to try this place because of the reviews but awful service is just a turn off

The fresh rolls were amazing. The sweet and sour pork was great. The server was awesome. All was well with this place, except the fly that was in my pad thai. Yep. A dead fly. The server, of course, removed this item from my bill. It wasn't any less disgusting since I'd already eaten a portion of the food. The fly looked whole, so I'm hoping I did not eat any of it. But it put a sour note on the night.

Small, simple place with a friendly staff. Solid Thai food. Equivalent to the best I've had in SD. I had a lunch special with chicken panang curry. It came with soup, salad, rice and a fried spring roll. All for $7.95. The curry and soup were tasty. The salad was iceberg lettuce and a tomato slice all covered in a pineapple based dressing; just okay. It seems like the type of place that would be best to go with a group and order a few different dishes to share family style. I'll definitely give it another go.

I LOVE this place!!! Definitely the best massaman curry I've ever had. Great portions and very flavorful. I usually come here at least once or twice a week for the lunch special and it is such a great deal- salad, soup and vegetarian roll with your entree for $6.95 (I get vegetables instead of meat). The owners are also super nice!

Great food and great service! Second time eating here and I was very impressed! The man who took our order was very polite and patient. They brought out soup for us to enjoy and brought our delicious tofu appetizer very quickly. We ordered pad thai and basil chicken and both came in very generous amounts. I left full and hardly even ate half! So good :) Not to mention this place is close to home and has AC :)) Definitely a plus.

Came on a Friday night, they were empty for some reason but it was perfect so we didn't have to wait to be seated. They have a huge TV which could be distracting but I didnt mind since we had a big group. Their menu items are priced fairly and I heard the pad see euw was good so I'll probably order that when we family style. Will post pics after we get our food

I have been to Thai good restaurants all over San Diego and this is definitely my favorite place to go. They have the best food I have had, and everything I have tried there is delicious (try the cashew chicken and yellow curry, my favorites). Their only problem is the lady server there is the worst I've ever seen... Probably why a lot of people get their food to go. If you go here, bring a whole load of patience with you. (I love Nat though, he's very nice) I would be devastated if they ever closed down just because they can't figure out to get a new server - so you should definitely go try their food! It's sooooo good.
